Hello to All, Well on Monday the news reported a massive recall of 2000 and 2001 Focus. Has anyone found out any information about this? I called my local dealership here in Hawaii and was told that my focus didn't have any recalls. The news reported that over 500,000 focus are being recalled due to safety issues. Mine is a 2000 ZX3 with over 32,000 miles on it and I haven't noticed any significant problems like there reporting.

I heard the same info also! I looked into it and was told that I would receive snail-mail if my car was in that recall. I have a 2000 Ford ZX3 with 38,000 miles and have had no problems thus far. I checked on the NHTSA and there are no recalls reported. I guess we should just keep on checking those mailboxes! Donnie

I believe it's suspension and electrical problems. I've read the engines have caught fire (I carry an electrical fire extinguisher since reading this) and the front suspension can fail, causing loss of control - one driver hit a tree or telephone pole. The question is, why aren't 2002s being included in this? So far, the only electrical problem I've encountered is the air recirculate button not working, then starting to work again on its own. Check focaljet.com. They should have all the info in their Recalls section. Christine Everett, WA

02S41 - Pinch Bolt Torque (Hermosillo and Wayne Assembly Plants) and Zetec Engine Battery Cable Routing (Hermosillo and Wayne Assembly Plants) AFFECTED VEHICLES Certain 2000 model year Focus vehicles from Job #1 2000 through January 11, 2000. 02S42 - Pinch Bolt Torque (Only Wayne Assembly Plant) and Zetec Engine Battery Cable Routing (Hermosillo and Wayne Assembly Plants) AFFECTED VEHICLES Certain 2000 and 2001 model year Focus vehicles from January 12, 2000 through May 31, 2001. SAFETY CONCERNS In some of the affected vehicles equipped with the Zetec engine, the battery cables may be misrouted, improperly secured, or inadequately insulated. If any of these conditions were to exist, overheating or corrosion could occur in the cable. These conditions may cause illumination of the check engine light or battery light, hard start or no start, or dead battery. In extreme cases a short circuit may occur, causing the cable to overheat, and possibly lead to fire. In addition, on all of the affected vehicles, the pinch bolt that retains the steering knuckle to the lower ball joint may not have the proper torque. If this condition exists, the customer may experience vibration, noise, or joint separation. SERVICE ACTION WHEN THE PARTS AND TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS BECOME AVAILABLE: Dealers will inspect the routing of the battery positive cable, verify proper terminal torque, inspect, and if necessary, modify the insulation on the affected vehicles to eliminate the potential for any of the conditions stated above (Zetec engines only). In addition, dealers will torque the pinch bolts on all the affected vehicles. PLEASE NOTE: PARTS AND TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME TO REPAIR THE CONDITION STATED ABOVE. You will be notified in a follow-up standard communication as soon as possible. CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION Owners of record will be notified after the standard dealer bulletins have been issued.

Yes, thanks. Has anyone tried to get a "nonaffected" vehicle (such as 2002) checked for these problems? Are the dealers willing to check under warranty? Christine

Don't know if Ford does this, but when I had a Kia I was able to simply present my car for a service problem I'd read about and the dealer could do the work since the VIN was included in the ones affected - you don't really have to wait for a letter. But maybe Ford dealers make us wait for the letters. Christine

It should be on your window sticker or on the door plate. It is most likely Hermisillo. Most of the Focuses were assembled in Hermisillo.. There may be other places to locate this info, I am sure yellow will post any additional locations. Bye.

All ZX3's are made in Mexico. The sedan, and wagon are made in Wayne, MI. I'm not sure about the ZX5.
