Does anyone know where the ballast resistor is located on a '75, with the original electronic ignition. On my blue prints from the factory it shows one, but I can't tell if it's an actual resistor or just a resistor wire.

At this point I can get the Bronco to start, but only after many attempts. Also several times it died when I gave it gas. I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, and all hoses.

I tried to locate a vacuum leak, but, wasn't able to detect any.

I was able to get it running enough to drive it about a half a block without it dying, but I did notice a slight smell of hot electrical and a slight loss of power. When I floored it, it ran really rough.

After parking it I touched the wiring under the dash, but nothing was hot to the touch.

This is driving me crazy. I miss my Bronc!

Any help is appriciated. Thanks

No I haven't removed them as of yet. I plan to replace them so I can rule them out. Thanks for the reply

Check the voltage at the + side of the coil if is 12v or more it isn't a resistor wire.I have a 69 it had a bad resistor wire I ran regular #14 wire from the ign. switch to the coil I mounted a ballast resistor on the side of the coil.I like this better because when in doubt i can always jump the resistor to get home unlike the resitor wire.If the 75 had a ballast resitor it would be inline with the 12v from the key

At this point I don't know. The engine doesn't have that many miles on it, even though it's my daily driver. The way it started I thought I bought some bad gas, but I've bought gas there for years and never had a problem. But I knoow that doesn't mean much with today's gas.

The only things I haven't replaced are my plugs, plug wires, ignition switch and ignition module. I run two modules side by side, and had both tested less than a month ago. Both tested fine.

Do you have any suggestions? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Ward

Ward I don't know but maybe a chipped tooth on the distributor??The way you said it runs ..then struggles or possibly a valve, loose timing chain could have jumped a tooth,I would check the timing then do the old compression test and see what you have, then squirt some oil down in the cylinder through the plug hole and test again to see if it changes.Hope this helps and it is not serious.
