SHIT!!! (Exuse the language, but I'm so excited, I don't know where to start) First of all, the FSZE J-spec engine is also available in 4 WHEEL DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!! And being that our cars have the same drive train, it is 100% possible to have a all wheel drive, 170hp,2.0L Ford Probe! That's if someone would import the damn thing. For the none believers, here is the Japanese website where I got the info. Scroll to the bottom of this site: http://www.e.mazda.co.jp/Publicity/Public/9711/971117.html There is your proof that I'm not pulling this one out of my ass! Also, I'm on a lead that there may be a 195hp German spec 626 2.0L engine in automatic trim, and a 208hp stick version. Not quite sure on why there is a difference. I don't speak german, so I may be wrong. If someone can desifer what it means, heres the German 626 site with our engine specs: http://www.mazda.de/ Make sure that you go to the 2.0L Exclusive section. Back to the J-spec engine. I have a pic. It is quite cheesy, but I will upload it to my site. Once it's up, the URL will be: www.geocities.com/Motorcity/1377/jspec.html It make take a day or so, but I also will post a pic of the Capella, and the Jspec cam setup. Here is an insert about the Capella and it's Jspec engine I found on a Japanese site today: "The new Capella realizes a fun to drive with its powerful and highly-efficient powertrains, highly rigid body, and superbly tuned chassis. Engine All models of the new Capella are equipped with "Diluted-burn" engines with increased power and a torque at the practical engine revolution range by improving the charging efficiency and combustion process. Especially, type FS-ZE 2.0-liter engine produces the class-leading 170 hp maximum power. In the "Diluted-burn" engines, a large amount of the exhaust gas is recirculated into the combustion chamber to improve fuel efficiency and to reduce the CO2 and NOx emissions in the wide range of driving situation including the acceleration and stable driving. The three types of engines offered in the new Capella, has been increased the maximum power by 9 to 36% (*3), reduced the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 5 to 21%, and also reduced the NOx emissions by 7 to 18% (*3). For the 2.0-liter FWD models, the maximum power has been increased by 36%, and the fuel consumption, CO2 and NOx emissions has been reduced by 18%, respectively. (*3) measured by the 10-15 mode Engin Type Type FS-ZE 2.0-liter DOHC Type FS-DE 2.0-liter DOHC Type FP-DE 1.8-liter DOHC Max.power (hp/rpm JIS net) 170 / 6,800 140 / 6,300 125 / 6,000 Max.torque (kg-m/rpm JIS net) 18.4 / 5,000 18.2 / 4,800 16.3 / 4,500 Fuel required Unleaded premium Unleaded regular Unleaded regular" Also, there is a TURBO VERSION OF THE 2.0L engine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! True, it's on the diesel version of the JSpec engine, which is ALSO available, but that also means that the turbo will be an identical match up to the regular 2.0L!!!!!!! Here is another insert: " July 2, 1998 CAPELLA SERIES POWERED BY THE FIRST DIRECT-INJECTION DIESEL ENGINE IN 2.0-LITER CLASS -- Achieves Class-leading fuel economy and output-- #The contents show the Japanese specifications. Mazda Motor Corporation has developed the first 2.0-liter-class diesel engine with direct injection and will apply the turbo version (DI-TD)* to their Capella four-door sedan and Capella Wagon. Sale starts today at Mazda and Mazda Anfini dealerships throughout Japan. The Capella was first released in August of 1997 followed by the Capella Wagon in November of that year. Both models have achieved popularity among drivers for features such as versatile seat arrangement for more interior space, excellent safety, and superb driving performance. The newly available DI-TD engine is a small-scale direct-injection turbo diesel engine designed for compact passenger cars. Fuel is injected directly into the c

All Wheel drive turbo probe! That's the stuff dreams are made of. Lets start with the Turbo from the diesel. How much boost does it create, how much boost can it create? where in the RPM range does it create this boost? Does have all the waste gates, and BOV's a proper turbo should. Speaking of witch is it even Intercooled? And of course hom much. Really the main question here is, is it any better (price or perfomance) than the TKT kit? These are the questions I need awnsered in the coming days and weeks. I feel the need to ask how you can draw the connection between an AWD Cepella, and an AWD probe? The Eclipse GSX is AWD too, but that has nothing to do with my probe. Now assuming that the AWD capella does match up with the probe, how much moo-la are we talking about here. The tranny itself is probley $2500, and at least that to get someone to install it - asumming you can find a mechanic who is BOTH knowledgable and adventurous to do it. If it can be done for say $3500 ($2500 for part, $1000 for instalation), without major body work, consider it done. And there is still the issue of wieght, if these tranny's wiegh 500 more pounds than stock, you'll need the turbo just to _keep up_ with a stock SE. And one final note, the site you liked to about the capella, is lists the AWD model as being avalible only in Automatic trim. Does that mean if someone does it they have to trade in their clutch for a tourqe converter? If so then you'll really need that turbo to keep up with the stock SE. I dont expect Torienta to know these thing yet, but bets see it we can find the awnsers to these questions. Because they pretty much cover the basics one would need to know, before he starts budgeting for such items.

I don't think it is very practical for a 2wd to 4wd conversion on a Probe. First thing that comes to mind is a few thousand tearing out the floor board and making a path rear drive shaft. That is just one stumbling block. Not that I discouraging it, just sounds very expensive. Also, we are assuming the chassis for the Cepella is that same as the Probes. Yeah, I don't think it is practical to go to an all wheel drive Probe. But, believe me, if it was possible, and I had the money, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Especially being in the military, and already living in England, I can fly to Japan for free! But anyway.... From the people I talked to, and info I have seen on the web, the Capella and 626 are supposed to have the same underpinings. So you know what the means. Capella = 626 underpinings, just like 626 = MX6 = Probe! But, this is all "gee wiz" info. I doubt I'll ever see someone perform the swap, but like Brian said, it's good info. As for the turbo though. Being that it is the same block, the turbo manifold/turbine unit is very usable. Of coure the turbo will probably require upgrading. Just getting the manifold, turbo, and lines all in one lump cuts down on a considerable amount of customization for the turbo 2.0ers. Just a thought. As I find out more info, I'll keep the forum posted. We may have something here..... ~ Torrienta www.geocities.com/Motorcity/1377 "pendleton, bryan p."
