I have a 2001 Focus that I purchased in late Aug of this year. While washing the car today, I noticed that the muffler (? the metal box that the tail piper comes out of) appears to be rusted? Is this possible, so soon? I do live a block away from the beach.<br><br>RTS<br>Deerfield Beach, FL

Here is some info on the care of your exhaust system. Just the basics. Rust is inevitable on all exhaust systems...I am on the coast of Maine...trust me, I'm expecting rust on this. My pipe is "stainless" so they say...we shall see.<br>Most exhaust pipes and mufflers are made out of "mild steel" which can and will rust. I have the same problem. i have had my car for 2 months and it looks like it is rusted. But I am getting exhaust so its all good.
