I just bought a 1983 Ford Bronco. It has a 5.0 motor in it and it is a mess. The motor looks good there are now signs of oil leaks although I am going through an awfully lot of Radiator fluid. My gas gauge likes to dance, she hesitates when I drop it in gear, but in reverse it pops a little bit. I have been babying it, I figured that is the best thing. I also need so links so that I attempt to fix up my motor.

I have some of the same problems with the addition of a large clunk when it shifts from drive to O-Drive or back down again. As well as the cruse control acting wierd, it constantly accelerates and decelerates? If anyone can post some stuff for us it would be appriciated.

BTW, welcome to the Bronc world Military_Chef.

Thanx for the welcome! I also have a loud clunking sound but it happens when I shift into Reverse. When I start to excellerate, the truck shifts just fine, but when I hit about 50 mph its like I have ran out of gears or something, because it won't shift again, now I am used to shifting into another gear when I am going that fast. I have a friend at work that knows all about this kind of stuff, and I will ask him about your problem. Chef C=:-)

ok so heres the skinny on the newer bronco's

if you have 4 wheel abs, everything your vehicle does whlie driving is controlled by the computer, it gets it's information from the 3 abs sensors, these are located in on top of the rear axle, and behind both front wheels near the calipers.

the one in the rear is very sensitive, and can misread if there is even a small variation in it.

it's also possible that one or both of the fron ones may possibly be covered with some mud, and therefore not getting a correct reading.

also there are like 3 differant fuses in the fuse box that work your cruise and tranny, check all of those including the ones under the hood near the master cylinder.

i blew one of these once while removing my top, and everything worked except for the tranny.

hope that can help someone, I finaly got mine fixed by the dealer after reading the manuals and pulling my hair out. mine turned out to be just one loose screw holding on the rear tone wheel, and caused it not to line up perfectly.

i unfortunately caught it too late and ended up having to replace the abs tone wheel.

good luck

adios

Johnny4x4
