My 2001 ZX3 gets an extremely dissapointing average of 14 mpg. Its funny how "great" gas mileage was one of the top selling points when they sold it to me...?

That's too bad, you all must have holes in your damn gas tanks. I average 28, mixed driving. On a highway trip I get around 32. What's the damn problem, maybe you should shift it out of first. And use the shift light on the dash if you have a manual. It is there for a reason. Either that or get an updated calculator that does math correctly.

Calm down man! I'm thinking there's an issue with the auto transmissions. BTW the shift light is the most annoying thing on the planet. If you don't know when to up shift maybe you should not be driving a manual. Also the shift light is worthless because when driving my Girl friends escort it wants me to shift at 3.24 or 3.5 (yes thousand RPM's). Every one knows you always take it to 6 before you even consider up shifting ;)! Another note I have an auto transmission and last week on a road trip from Seattle to Vancouver BC averaging speeds of 65-75 I got 28 miles to the gallon. Total miles to and fro were 478. I have an auto because I'm lazy and people in Seattle pull up right on your ass when you are stopped on a nice steep hill, bastards.

Hi, I'm in Seattle too...was told by my salesguy not to take it over 4,000 RPM before shifting, while it was new anyway. I have the Zetec engine on a 2002 ZX5 so maybe it's different, but 6 would be overreving it from what mine sounds like. Am getting 25 mpg with mixed driving, mostly stop and go local.
