My dad has a degree in sterio installation...building of.....wiring of...you name it, he's got it....My pops would never let me run the wire that way if a short was a definite occurance. The power wire..if you have a good one..is heavily insulated, there's like more plastic surrounding the actual wire than there is wire. Running it through the door jam is safe, becuase a rubber gasket surrounds the door, you know the one that keeps the water and other stuff out of your car....A fire would be caused by a short (wire touching metal) unless you are totally uncoordinated..and snag it somehow with your foot while getting in or out of the car...its safe where it is...also..i've never seen an unfused power wire in my life...unless your system is made up of pieces of wire you had lying around..:) In my case...if it caught fire....thats why god invented full coverage...so no worries.. I'm sure all of our systems are fine....car sterio systems cannot be just slapped together..if you want them to sound good. And of course those of us who have systems got coo ones....thats all that matters...:) Carolyn 96 SE

Hello all, I didn't know you could get a degree in stereo installation. I do know that you can become certified as an installer by the Mobile Electronics Certification Program. After a year of professional experience then you can become First Class Certified in the Mobile Electronics Certification Program. I happen to be First Class Certified with ten years experience in the Mobile Electronics field and I can tell you that at no time do you run a power cable through your door jam. The power cable should go through the firewall through a plastic/rubber grommet and be fused within ten inches of the battery. Yes, people do not fuse their power cables, and they do run their power cable through the door. This reminds me of a customer I had when I was still installing that wondered why is power cable had caught on fire and burned his whole interior on his brand new T-Bird. I opened the door, saw the power cable pinched in the door hinge, and then popped the hood and found the power cable wrapped around the battery terminal. Unlucky him... So, I don't know where your dad got his degree from but, any professional mobile audio installer would never admit to running a power cable through a door.
