I'm Gary and I have a 95 Laser Red Probe with the following mods: Brospeed Headers (IMHO a waste of $330. I didn't gain a lick of speed or lower my time in the 1/8th mile or 0-60. It was actually worse after i put this on) 2/4 Catback Exaust (A waste of $180) Superchip Flowmaster 40 Series DF(My favorite investment) TFI Ignition Coil w/ Magnecore Compition KV85 wires Dropezone suspension coils American Racing rims K&N Intake Filter

Gary, Did the performance chip, Magnecore wires, and Bosch plugs all make a difference in power / speed? If so, how much? I've been thinking about putting these in before Spring..... Thanks again, Chris

hello ryan just to let you know bosch platinum 4 plugs actually burn too hot for the mazda engines after an extended period of time they actually start to pit the cylinder by creating a hot spot this causes an unequal spray pattern in the stock injectors if you have a 4 cyl this could lead to a head problem. and your wires are 7.5mm or better they don't come in any smaller sizes for the probe unless you have a geo metro then they come in 6mm performance wires are usually 8mm or better have a very low ohm rating they run 100-200$ for the probe expensive but worth it if your into racing I would recomend some NGK V- power plugs for you they are OEM design and better for the engine. just thought I'd let ya know hahaha later luke >

Luke, Do you know if this heat issue applies to 2.5 Liter, V-6 engines as well? I know this is a 2.0 site, but I've picked up alot of great tips from you guys that similarly apply to the 2.5L. Thanks again, Chris > >

Here is a site with a list of my mods: http://http://www.probedb.co.uk/display.php?id=171

I have done considerable maintenance and repair to this car as well as the car had several cosmetic issues as well as mechanical issues when I purchased it, the need for a revised version of the oil pump being the most severe.

Future plans include a custom burn Diablosport chip to compensate for torque loss due to fueling problems with the j-cam.  I still haven't recieved confirmation that they are able to do a custom burn for a PSE but I'm hopeful since no other companies are doing this kind of work for our cars.  Some suspension work and possibally some adjustable cam gears are coming in the near future as well.

I got one for ya, my car seems to stumble on its face on acceleration, and sometimes my oil psi gets low, and their is a soft taping or ticking sound coming from the back of the manifold, what could be my prob?
I want to say oil pump, but for $240 I dont wanna risk it if i dont need it, plus labor, whole ignition is new, new fuel pressure reg. and all the other mods I listed, have any ideas?

That is the biggest crock of poo I've ever heard ,blake. did you make that up or did somone who sounded like they knew what they were talking about tell ya that about plat 4s?

And as far as wires go you only need  performance wires if you have a high performance coil, and you need a performance coil only if you have one of the following NOS,TURBO,or HIGH COMPRESSION.Why? they all give your mixture

greater Density and that takes a stronger spark to penetrate the mixture.

And plugs, wires, coils DO NOT give in any form enhanced power!! They only can restore lost power from worn parts.

ha ha

dont give advice unless you know what your talking about!!

You cant tell me honestly that a platinum plug performs well in a engine that is designed for resistors ngk v power at best the engines that were designed for platinums are stock performance probes are not that they were designed for looks not power the engine in them is so detuned it's unreal the 2.0 is a luxry type sports design car that was based for "FEMALE" consumers the GT is even a shitty v-6 all foreign cars are designed to take ngk plugs but the problem is the probe is a ford body with a mazda engine so fort put motor crafts in them ngk is the best plug for them and by the way I'M NOT BLAKE HE PASSED AWAY A LITTLE WHILE AGO IN A CAR ACCIDENT WITH A DRUNK DRIVER IN HIS PROBE THAT HE LOVED AND I HELPED HIM TUNE HE KNEW A LOT BUT BEING A ASE PARTS SPECIALIST AND CERTIFIED TECH I THINK I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT... Luke:

What a car is designed for has nothing to do with the plug it uses. It is all about compression PSI at TDC hotter plug for lower and colder for higher psi.

And as far as heat ranges go Bosch plats, ngk v powers, motorcraft all come in different heat ranges made specific for each engine, the only real difference is that  plats have a platinum electrode that simply last longer and they are also self cleaning.

And were do you get that either burn any different heat range?

So it is wrong that you can need NGKs or equivalent if you car was designed for a Female.

Evidently being a tech gives you no insight on why and how a engine performs.

Don't try to give me a guilt trip to make up for you incompetence

To the other 2.0 people I am just try to point out the erroneous BS that gets put here

Because I know you look to 2literprobes for the help you need.

Way off subject but, what ever happend to using punctuation?? I've been reading some of these post and am very confussed because of the lack of it and the confussing words. Anyway. I'm not putting anybody down but periods and commas would be nice so it would be much easier to read. Thanks. I've actually got a question too. Where is the idle control screw??? I've looked and haven't found it. I've looked in my service manual but the screw there is a screw to help hold on the IAC or Throttel Body on; when I turn it, it makes a hissing sound, thats why I don't believe its that on.I've found the screw that controls the throttle cable but not ideal. Thanks for the help.
