I have a problem with my 1993 explorer. We started geting snow and I was leaving a parking lot the other day and could not get traction so I decided to put it into 4-wheel drive. I have the autolocking hubs and the push button 4-wheel drive selector. And when I pushed the button nothing, no light no 4-wheel drive. When I pushed the button I could here somthing clicking in the rear. But I would not go into 4- wheel drive. Any suggestions,? I dont really have the money to have it taken into the shop (I am a collage student.) Any info whould be great I am pretty good with cars so techinical information is allright. Thanks.

Have you been 4 wheeling it anywhere? A common cause of this is a solenoid on the transmission. Slide under the truck and look at the transmission (where the shaft goes from the transmission to the front differential) There are several wires there. One of those goes to the a solenoid that engages the gearing in the transmission engaging the from shaft. There is a solenoid and a sensor. The sensor runs the light. This way the light goes on only if the gear actually engages. Just check and make sure they are all connected well. You might want to disconnect and reconnect them.     Chris Robertson
