I am new to this list and have recently bought a 4.0 95 Aerostar (extended). I want to replace the shocks all around but there are a lot of choices (vendors and models) out there. I will be doing a occasional light towing. Any recommendation for good shocks or what to keep away from?

<http://www.monroe.com/products/mp_category.asp?cat=Sensa-Trac> They're pricey but the work as advertised. I also went with Moog cargo coil springs on all four wheels. If I were to do it again I would just put them on the rear. The front frame is a little too delicate IMO for the heavier springs. Gene Horr

Gene, A few extra questions...Did you go with the sensa-trac on all four corners? The Monroe site suggest Reflex or Sensa-Trac shocks on the front and then either Sensa-Trac, Sensa-Trac Load adjusting, or Reflex on the rear. As I am occacionally towing and carrying passengers and luggage the van "squats" in the rear when loaded so I am considering putting air adjustables on the rear. Why did you install heavier springs on the rear instead of adjustable shocks? As about 75% percent of the time it is just three of us in the van I am concerned about getting a more harsh ride with heavier springs. - Mark

Sensa-Trac on all 4 corners. The heavier springs were on the rear because it would sag when fully loaded with adults plus sometimes I will tow a moderate load (slightly over 1 ton). The ride is actually fairly smooth but I hear more noise from the front when going over bumps seemingly from the wheels "slamming" down. It does not affect handling but the sound bothers my wife a _lot_. The rear did not appear to have a negative effect. The rear springs are very simple to change out and IIRC the price wasn't too bad. You might consider changing out the springs first, and if they work OK then adding the Sensa-Tracs. If you don't like it then you can go back to stock and add the adjustables. Gene Horr

Seems Monroe has a pretty good web site to help select shocks. For occasional load and moderate towing it suggest a set of Reflex in the front and load adjusting Sensa-trac in the rear. I can pick this up from rockauto.com for $171. A set of regular Insta-tracs or Reflex on all corners is $151. I'm leaning towards the first option at $171. Supposedly the Insta-trac is for a "more smooth ride". the Reflex is for "improved stability with reduced harshness". (If one trust what they say.) The Reflex also is suppose to help with body roll on tall vehicle and minivans. If I read to much of this stuff I might just get myself real confused.... I wander what the Gabrelle shock folks have?
