A few weeks ago, my brother and I were trying to chagne the negative battery cable out on my 1997 Eddie Bauer.  I recently bought it from my uncle and it needs some work.  Anyway, at the time it was dark and when we were dloing this.  I am unable to get under the truck right now due to some illness, so I am trying to guide my brother who is not the best of mechanics.  My Haynes manual says that the very last lead should connect into the frame or the starter.   He said that it was not connected to the starter, but was in the frame.  Well, when we were doing this once the bolt came out of its hole in the frame, we could not get the bold out of the bracket it was in.  It was getting late, so we called it a night.   So, today we go to install the new negative cable and we can not figure out where the bracket was orginally located when we removed it.  We both have been under there and can not figure out where the bracket was located at the time we removed it.    I know this is long, but does anyone else know where it is or maybe have a pic or point me to another resource somehwere so we can get this cable attached in hopes of starting the truck.    Many Thanks.

Thanks,   Shane

just a guess here, but as an electrician (not a mechanic) i would assume that if the bracket were applied to the frame it would be sufficient, just to be safe ensure that the bracket doesn't touch anything but the frame.  Also, obviuosly (or maybe not so obviously) make sure that the bracket is mounted solidly to the frame.

Yeah, that is what we ended up doing.  It is a pain in the ass to put a new ond of those on.  It runs through every nook and crannie down through every hose in the engind block.    Of course, the OEM part I got from Ford was not as long as the one that was originally on the truck, so we are having to rig something to get the negative cable on the terminal of the battery.   Thanks for the input, regardless.

Try a factory manual not that one from Haynes.   You can get them at www.helminc.com   It will have all the details in its thousands upon thousands of pages.
