Well a little while ago, I got my car broken into and lost some stuff. The good thing I got from the experience was that I learned how the center console fits together. I lost my radio in the ordeal so the insurance company is letting me get a new one. I got some ideas and since all of my Probe questions go here, I thought I would get some opinions. I have four that I think are ok. They are Alpine CDM7854, CDM7857, Pioneer DEH-P410, Pioneer DEH-P310. The thing about the Pioneers I like are the ability to change colors and the disc naming. The Alpine web site doesn't say anything about it. I like the Alpine Bass Drive system that comes with the 2000 model, but the Pioneer 45x4 is also a nice feature. Well I would appreciate any input, thanks! -Mike 95' PSE

Mike to be honest, I am a serious stereo nut. I would say it all depends on what kind of speakers you are using. If you have just the factory speakers, then it really will not matter what head you are using, if you have an upgraded speaker system then it will make all the difference, like if you are running amps, crossovers, subs. There is a lot to consider. I myself have upgrades all the speakers in my car and I think the Probe is a great platform to install a great stereo. I placed component 6" speakers in the front doors, and I am in the process of mounting fosgate 8", 3" and 1" int the rear quarters. I have a sub enclosure in the back with Kicker 12's right now and have been shopping around for new ones now. This is all powered by a fosgate 400a4 and a 200a2 amps. I have a coustic crossover running and will be installing another fosgate amp soon, a 100a2. The plans I have laid will separate all the frequencies out to the 12 speakers really great. I expect some really rocking sound when I get it done. Right now all I am missing is the 100a2 and the 12's to make it all work... BTW I am using a Fosgate CD headunit. Keith 96SE

Hey Mike. I would go with the Pioneer Deck. It puts out the power and sounds awesome. The features are pretty nice too.

I have the JVC El Kameleon head unit (KD-LX1). The KD-LX3 has a remote and AUX input. I love the unit except for one thing: it gives me a small turn on noise that the IASCA judges bashed me for. The other JVC head unit that I had (KD-??930) did not give me the problem. I even have an oversized ground on it and my Infinity amps have a turn on delay. Go figure!
