Hi, I'm thinking about buying a 65-69 -Manuel- V8 Mustang, but I don't know if I should look for a 289 or 302 or 351.

Im also not sure how much i should be paying for a mustang, which is in decent shape, as in, it runs and has a O.K. paint job

I'm young and inexperienced. it would be much appreciated if you could help me.

Mustangs with 289's and 302's feel about the same in the city, only passing at high speed on the highway will there be any different. Hiperf 4 bbl 289's are probably better than an average 2bbl 302 at traffic lights. After 69 EPA requirements on retarded timing really hurt 0-20 mph performance, especially in the cold weather. Probably no two lane roads where you can do any passing near Sacramento, anyway. Early models have 289, later ones have 302. 351 is a lot later than 69, 351 is not as quick 0-20mph where you will use it in the city, but has more pep 70-100mph where you would have to go to Nevada to use the power. Around here decent early coupes nothing special (non bullitt non-pony etc) can be had in the recession for $6500-$16000 depending on condition. You can check midwestern prices in the website www.autorv.com look at the classic cars section. Actual price can be a little less than asking price in the picture book. (There are paper editions distributed here) Prices are depressed right now due to the massive unemployment problem. Hobby cars go first when you lose your job.
