Hey all.
Newbie to the site, but NOT to forums like this one or to "
backyard" mechanic'n my vehicles/toys. I should also add that my current "
line-up" of said vehicles & toys represent ALL the big 3 and Arctic Cat. I'm push'n the big 40 and have been "fixing" cars since I was 14 - helping my old man at his shop - but I'm NOT a mechanic by trade. So feel free to take off the "kid gloves" when it comes to explaining your position/opinion/techniques/ideas when it comes to sett'n me on the path to TEMPO "
enlightenment"
I joined this site to get what ever info & pick the brains from fellow members, because my 17yr old son just bought his 1st car this wk.
A '93 Ford TEMPO GL 4dr - LOADED - 4cyl/auto - sitting w/ 105000k.

(less that 300 miles). It has some "
cosmetic" issues that turned out to be a bit more involved than we 1st realized - but I've resolved for him by buying a new passenger fender/grill/header panel and headlights today for $100 bucks off a '92 TOPAZ. (
according to the wrecker all parts should fit.) And I put $400 bucks into new brakes - transmission flush & filter - coolant system flush w/new hoses & thermostat yesterday.
For a school/work car I feel it's a decent little car to get him started since ALMOST everything works. The exception is the DRIVER'S AUTOMATIC SEATBELT.
Now it didn't work when he bought it and I surmised it was just a bad wire somewhere's
(My wife (and I) owned a '92 FESTIVA for 12yrs and the Automatic belts were a constant pain) & it's "
locked" in the closed position.
Now it ain't rocket science but I understand that it could be :
1. FUSE
2. RELAY(S) under the glovebox?
3. seatbelt switch in the A or B pillar?
4. fried motor?
5. jammed track
6. stripped gear(s) - but it makes no noise
I should add that it makes NO ATTEMPT to do anything........at all. And the previous owner said it did work periodically. So I'm surmising electrical.
Other than the obvious fuse/relay senerio.......any other insight on how to approach this repair and what steps to take.......would be greatly appreciated.
