I have a 1996 Ford Explorer Limited, 5.0 V8. I have no heat blowing out of vents. First it was an intermittent problem. When I played with the buttons, (heat, vent, defrost, automatic temp.mode, max A.C. etc.) I would eventually get heat. Then it stopped blowing hot altogether. Every mode works, just that they all blow cold air. I changed the thermostat but that wasn't it. I'm wondering if it could be electrical, a Temp. sensor or something. I heard there is a way to test the auto temp. control by pressing certain buttons at the same time. Anyway, I'm stumped. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

Do you have the thermostat controlled heater (digital display where you set the temperature) or do you have a slide knob or turn knob. Common problems. Digital control uses a processor, but usually the duct control dies. With a slide knob, there are problems about the cable disconnecting or the arm in the duct having trouble. With the turn knob, they are pneumatic (air/vacuum) driven. If I remember right, there is a main branch that goes to the intake where the vacuum is created. (it wouldn't work if the truck was off, so I'm not sure about that) See if you can find the vacuum cluster on the driver side of the intake. Looks like a metal tree with hoses coming off of it. There should be one of those line that goes through the fire wall. (into the truck)   Tell us what type of control it is then we can talk.   Chris Robertson

If it is the turn knob, have someone turn the knob while you look at the valve on the hot water pipe on the left side of the motor (facing the truck), that goes through the firewall to the heater core.  You should see the valve linkage move, if not there is a vacuum problem.

That would mean finding someone to help me, hum?  I have the same problem. The bloody heat worked all summer, and stopped our first cold snap.  ::shiver::   Florida DOES get cold at times, folks!   Tere

Take look at www.fixyourford.com and look at the blend door issue.  Hope this helps.
