Been having my check-engine light come on and off for sometime now on my '96 PSE. Finally got it into the shop and the code read that it was in the O2 sensor system but they couldn't get it to repeat so I had the choice of just going einy-meny-miny-mo as to which one of the two sensors it was or waiting till it does it again so they can check it out. After hearing the prices of them I'm waiting... $203 for the one and $230 for the other both from Ford. Has anyone seen any cheaper sensors or know anyone that has a wreaked Probe that has good sensors that would be willing to part with them? Any info would be helpful. Later, Fred dastonedsmurf@... 1996 Probe SE, K&N Filter, 17" Primax Rims,Tinted Windows, Thumpin System... more to come

Go to CARPARTS.COM. You can get a Bosch O2 sensor #15708 for $75 including shipping and handling. I bought mine from them and had no problems. Good luck, Steve

We went through the same thing on my brothers 96 PSE. The 93-95 and the 96-97 are set up a bit different re O2sensors. The 96+ have two sensors instead of one, and the downstream (lowest sensor on 96+) sensors plug might be different from the upstream. I ordered a 15708 from Eddie, but the plug wasnt the right gender for the upstream sensor harness so we had to send it back. It might work for the downstream sensor though, check plugs first before ordering. I did check out carparts and they list the Bosch 13287 and 13289 for direct replacement for 96+. They cost $200, so im going to try to get a 13287-13289 locally to look at the plugs and maybe get it cheaper. We ended up splicing a 13275 sensor into the old plug on the upstream sensor, and the downstream sensor was replaced under warranty. BTW, you might want to get an Autotap to scan your own codes instead of paying the dealer $50. The couple of times ive scanned this PSE and my mom's 96 F150 have already payed for it, IMHO. Check it out: htttp://www.autotap.com

Depends on the year. Prior to 96 only one was required. In 96 when OBDII was mandated on all US bound vehicles there has to be one in front and one in back of each catalytic converter. California bound vehicles may have gone to this system ealier. The first O2 sensor is used primarily to check and adjust fuel mixture and/or burn effiency. The rear one is used to dtermine how well the cat is working by comparing the signal from the front to the back. >
