I am having two problems with my 95 PSE I was hoping someone could help me with. 1) When coming to a stop after the pedal is depressed the brake light comes on sometimes, not always. ANyone know what could cause this? 2) The car sometimes consumes oil. I know all cars do, but last week the car burned a half a quart on a 250 mile trip. The car then sat for 4 days and when it was finally restarted there was a huge cloud of smoke from oil which had obviously collected in the cyclinders. It cleared in a few seconds, but was unsettling. I have never noticed this before although at times the car did consume oil on mostly city driving, but I would only add one quart over time between oil changes (3000 miles). Any suggestions would be appreciated. Chris

Well, the brake light coming on under braking sounds like you need to add some brake fluid. Its probably low now, but when you brake the fluid is pushed to the front or the reservoir, causing the low brake fluid sensor to trigger the light. Check the fluid level and add enough to reach the full line. Id suggest Ford's High Performance Brake Fluid, it comes in a blue metal can. Now might be a good time to just flush the whole system, btw. Helps to do it every year. The oil consumption could be several things, Id do a compression test to see if the compression is in spec, should be VERY easy on the I4. A leakdown test would be good too, and may give you a better idea of whats going on in there (making sure valves are sealing and cylinder rings arent worn) Julian Bradbury's Probe/626/MX6 FAQ (Excellent source of info) http://www.bradbury.cwc.net/probemx/index.htm Brake Bleeding and fluid change http://www.bradbury.cwc.net/probemx/p_m12.htm Compression Test Method http://www.bradbury.cwc.net/probemx/p_m16.htm

Thanks for the reply. I need to check the brake fluid and flush the system. This problem does not concern me as much as the oil. The car only has 50,000 miles and I would be very disappointed in the car if rings were worn or it had poor valve seals. I do not think I would buy another Mazda product. Several friends with other Mazdas have had to many problems as well. Chris

I can help you on the oil. You need to replace the valve guide seals. You might have to replace the whole lifter but possibly not. Check into it
