Hi Does anyone know what the difference is between a Fram PH16 and a PH16A and whether or not the 16A is OK to use in the '95 2liter 4 cylinder. A friend gave me most of a case of 16A's and as I remember one of my cars (I'm not sure if it was the contour or not) used to run a 16A and then Fram stopped making them and all I could get was the 16. I suspect that one of the filters has a valve that prevents drain back and one doesn't. Any insights would be appreciated! Dave

Frams are not great filters, just plentiful. They have a check valve of poor design and bairly adequate filter media. Comment from a Fram engineer http://members.nbci.com/minimopar/oilfilter-fram1.txt . Use the Motorcraft filter, much beter and about the same cost. The Motorcraft is less than $3 at Walmart. See my post 2656 for a link to a review of many oil filters and their recommendation to avoid the Fram filters.

I order some parts from Mac's last night and I remember the diagrams of the oil canisters in there. They would probably have them. The site link is listed in the Links portion of this site. Their parts are reasonably priced and I have never had a problem with them.

Mike
