I agree with you Jordan. We are all owners of wonderfull Fords. WE should be looking for some honda owers to bicker and fight with.On the same note has anyone ever taken on 99 honda civic si? > Hey everybody. Here's a little update on my oil pump. I replaced it this weekend and my ticking noise stopped. My oil pressure has calmed down and so has my idle. Anybody that is having the ticking noise, I now know for sure that the oil pump is the cause. Anyway, the car's in great shape now, so anybody that wants to stop the ticking just replace the oil pump. It's a relatively easy swap. > > Jordan > > PS - Let's stop all the bickering gentlemen (and ladies). Let's not forget that we all own the same car and we're not talking shit to some Civic owners or anything. > > >

The pump cost me about $240. It's not so hard to do yourself if you know what you're doing. You need to take off all the drive belts, timing belt, etc. It's not that hard. Jordan

I went to my local Ford dealership and picked up the recommended pump. My guy in parts told me that Ford has modified the pumps that they sell now in order to fix the problem, so if you go to Ford the problem should no happen again. Jordan

I checked at my Ford dealership, and they cost around $250 or something. Does anyone know where aftermarket oil pumps for the 2litre can be found? Also, if it's difficult to replace it on your own. One possible solution to stop the clicking could be to use a thicker grade of oil, like 20w30. I've read on the net about that working for other cars.

Does anyone know where where the oil pump is located? I've tracked my noise down to just behind the left side of the valve cap. I took it to the dealer today, and we went for a drive so that he could hear the noise... And he told me he doesn't think it's the oil pump, but I told him to check that first. -Robin Hillman

you don't have to remove the engine but it is a lot of work still. you have to take off the timing belt, and everything around it just to see it. The one good thing is, if you have already done all the rest of that other work, you can go to corksport.com and maybe get a J-Spec intake cam and(or) the Mazdaspeed exhaust cam. Maybe even a lightened under drive pully, since you will have to pull it off anyway. Or do nothing until it starts affecting your oil pressure. I wish I had done all of mine at the same time. Before I jumped to the conclusion of a bad oil pump, I'd check a few things out first. Oil level, oil pressure, and valve adjustment. I'm going to bet that all you have to do is adjust your valves. Sometimes the locknuts wear out and need to be replaced on the rocker arms. If that doesn't work it just might be a sticking lifter from crappy gas and old oil...if so, run a quart of ATF with your engine oil, it'll free it up usually in a coulple miles of driving. Worse case scenario is bleeding lifters. Which in case you will have to buy a cam kit. Your looking at anywhere from $100 and up. If you change your lifters you do need to change your cam.
Scott

Ooops forgot something....stupid question. Are you sure its a lifter? I have had exhaust leaks fool me many times. Check for an exhaust leak too, they sound alot like a sticking lifter.
Scott

jimbeam7yr, can you tell me some more about the exhaust leak thing? My wifes car has what appears (sounds) to be a sticking lifter or something like that....ticking when the engine runs at idle, but all the parameters are good. Any particular place in the exhaust system? Also any special problems I need to be aware of replacing the O2 sensor on a 96 Bronco w/ a 302?
