Is it stated somewhere in the manual that I'm suppose to change the oil at 1,000 miles--1600km? Or is that just a common knowledge thing?

Welcome aboard.

I went all through my owner's manual and maintenance manual and could not find any reference to the first oil change at 1000 miles.

My maintenance schedule booklet shows the first oil change at 5000 miles (8000 km).

I called my dealer and they talked about changing the oil at 5000 km (3125 mile) intervals but that seems like a little bit of overkill.

I did my first oil change at approximately 7000 km (4375 miles). My recommendation would be to change it somewhere between 3500 to 5000 miles (5500 to 8000 km).

I was also told that the oil that came with the car had special additives for the break in period but several posters from the other Escape club felt that was erroneous.

5W20 oil was not available when I changed my oil, I had 5W30 synthetic oil put in instead.

Gary

It came with the vehicle. I think that you can download it from the Ford site as well. I haven't been to the new Ford owners site yet but I will try this weekend and let you know if you can still download it from there. Gary

I am unable to find the listed mileage to change my oil for the 2008 V6 Escape as well in my booklet, or I'm over looking it. This is my first real post. My name is secross not sexcross lol.
Anyway I'm real interested in getting an accurate answer to this from owners, as well as thoughts about synthetic oil. Good bad ? I have no knowledge about motors, lots about sheet metal.
thanks in advance..

I understand that standard mileage for changing oil with regular oil is 5,000 miles. I use synthetic Amzoil & I change about every 20,000 or miles.
