This problem is electrical on an 86 mustang gt / 302ci that I have owned since new and is an old problem. I'v had the dash apart twice replacing the small snap in regulator and polished up the contact on the two plug in wire harnesses. They work for a while then they quit again. In the beginning the guages were intermittent and then they stopped working. The Tach and Alt guage work. Also the low fuel lite on the console is on. Any ideas for a fix. I beginning to think the little FOrd snap in guage regulator is not up to the task? I hate not knowing how much gas I have.

It sounds to me as if there's a loose wire somewhere as it keeps reoccurring. I hate these sorts of problems as they are so hard to pin down.
