Would like to say as this is my first post have to say i love the thunderbird and want to have it around for a long time. It is a 95 Thunderbird. Very first car to ever have only 17 so really new to this the first question is i have been told that i need to change the thermostat and i got to looking and i can't find it. I know that it looks like taken out but not to sure what the thing that holds it looks like. I am hoping that this will take care of the problem can any one tell me where to find it on the 95 model? ty vm for your time

Is it a v6 or a v8? the 4.6L V8 you follow the top radiator hose to the piece of metal on the engine and remove the two bolts, and the thermostat is under there. I would think the 3.8L V6 would be similar and in a similar location, but I've never looked for one on a 3.8L.

Are you sure that a t-stat is the problem? Alot of the 4.6L have a plastic intake and they like to crack, you might want to pressure test the system to make sure that the intake does not leak. I am a service tech. at a Ford dealership. I own a 93 with a 5.0L.

94-95 4.6L are completely cast intakes, no plastic whatsoever. ;)

Yes, I had mine crack on my 97 T-Bird. It would not hold water. Had to have it towed. I guess that could depend on how bad the crack was. Bruce

Thank you for that I will have it looked at because i just found out even though the car is a 95 Thunderbird the engine is a different year. Mercury Cougar, still a 4.6L but is there any way to find out the year on it. the t-stat was in the same place as it was decribed to me so maybe it is not that much difference in the year or maybe the same im not really sure how to tell.

Well the intake tube is a hard plastic violin case on the 94-95, ( http://www.mn12tbird.com/mods/gtintake/gttube-step01.jpg ) the throttle body faces forward, and the intake manifold is all silver metal. ( http://www.mn12tbird.com/mods/gtintake/gttube01.jpg ) different intake tube, but that will give you the idea The 96+ 4.6 2v has a rubber intake tube, the throttle body is in the middle of the intake manifold and faces to the passenger side, and is either all black plastic or black plastic with a metal cross bar across the front (where the thermostat went) ( http://www.mn12tbird.com/underbird/pics/other/engine07.jpg )

I like the way you did the plumbing in Blue. Care to provided some input on it. Mine is silver too. BTW, That is the Thermostat Housing where the large Black hose connects to the engine on the right of the Alternator. There is a Blue house that appears to be connecting to it also. My 97 doesn't have that hose where the blue one is, so I am not sure about it connecting. Bruce Bruce

That is just blue split loom tubing that you can get at almost any electrical supply store and auto parts store... I have it on the engine harness (I had to strip it and extend a few wires to put the 96 block/2000 intake/heads on), AC lines, EGR/FPR lines and other misc wiring from the power and sensor leads I had to run to the engine bay. It doesn't actually connect to the Thermostat Housing, it just looks like it in the pic. :)

Thank you for the pictures every thing looks ok around it and its metal so no cracks. Some time i will just have to look at the T- stat and see if it opens and closes. Any ideas for loosen a rused bold the t-stat bolts are orange from being left alone so long.

Just put it on a pot of water and bring it up to 195* F and it should open. You can also try a lighter just find some other way of holding the thermostat than your hand! :D As for the bolts, most auto-parts stores sell "PB Blaster" or other such solvants to break loose stuck bolts. Spray it on, wait a while then try taking it off.

Also, when you put the thermostat back. Use a gasket. I have not looked at mine, but I suspect it is made of pot metal. Snug it up good. Don't over tighten, or you can crack the housing. ShadowDragon, Split Looming ? I would of never guessed. No problem with heat I assume. Bruce
