Brandon, I have a 95 626 2.0l (automatic) and had the exact same problem over a year ago. When the OD light flashes it indicates some sort of fault with the transmission. The reason it shifts hard is once the computer records a transmission fault, it goes into a sort of default mode and the shift points are all out of wack. The best thing to do is take it into a mechanic (ideally a transmission specialist) that can pull the codes from the computer and determine if the fault is mechanical or electrical. I had my entire transmission rebuilt (clutch packs, torque converter, etc.) before they realized that the actual problem was a crack in the inner housing and fluid was leaking from the inner housing to the outer housing and the fluid pressures were all screwed up. After they replaced it, everything was fine and it is still going great a year later. Hope you have better luck than I had...even though the transmission is working great now, it cost a lot of $$$ that I did not want to spend at the time. Steve

If you are going to spend the money anyway, get a 5 speed, and get rid of the automatic. You will be happier in the long run. I wish I had done that $2500 ago.
