Regarding the water pump, if it's the original at 125K miles I am amazed. I expect 60-80K from a pump. At 125,000 the timing chain should be ok, many people put 150,000 on these engines without problems. I'd only replace the chain if it had excessive play. Clive

If the engine is non-interference I'd agree. Since the Ford 3.8 is a chain drive, low compression, low performance engine I'd assume is it non-interferance design. If it's an interferance design and I want to keep the thing I'd change it at about 150k.
