Alright... after crawling under my car yesterday I noticed that the CV boots had let grease shoot all over the bottom of the car (bad thing)... I a was wondering it the worst case, having to replace boots, CV joints, and all associated bearings about how much am I looking at getting into? How hard is this to do yourself? Another thing I noticed was the powersteering boots were wet and my fluid was slightly low... is this a sign that the end is near for it as well? Can you get a rebuild kit for the steering or do you have to replace the whole thing? Any idea about how much I would be looking at for that? Other little wear parts... timing belt and clutch... about how much I'm I looking at and how involued would it if I did either of them myself? how much could I expect to pay if I had someone else do it? Any other parts I should consider replacing while I have everything apart? Thanx For Everyone's Help, Fred Laughin dastonedsmurf@...

Fred if ur gonna wait and replace the joints i would just get new half shafts becasue there usually cheaper in the long run and easier to install. they run i think 79.99 at autozone witha lifetime warranty. the powersteering boots u said about i take they were the rack and pinion boots and it osunds like they seals are shot on the shaft and there under a hundred bucks at the zone adn carry the same warranty as the shafts.NOw for ease of installation the shafts are rather easy just remember not to pull both shafts out at the same time or ull have tranny problems and the rack is easy to do but time consumin becasue of its location . i hope this has help ya seth 97 base

Hey pal, sounds alot like my Probe...I love my car, but it sure is givin' me some problems lately. The power steering you're referring to, that's the rack and pinion, I'm having the exact same problem. Only mine sounds quite a bit worse. I actually work at Advance Auto Parts, and I looked up the rack for my car, and the price...$413.99!!!!!!! I was shocked, I called around, (Auto Zone, and other local parts stores), the cheapest quote that I got was $272.99 from Auto Zone actually. Surprisingly though, my local Ford dealership wasn't too badly priced $452.99 for a completely brand new unit. Anyway, there isn't a rebuild kit available for it that I know of...sorry. But look around, tell me what you find out, and good luck, it's a beautiful car and I'd hate to have to get rid of it because of expensive replacement parts and I'm sure you feel the same way. Good luck. P.S. I can quote you a price for the other parts that you need, give me a day or two, and then from there, if you have an Advance in your area, the prices are gonna be the same, and you'll have an idea. By the way, if you were thinking junkyard for some of the parts, good luck finding a 2nd Gen Probe.
