Multi,
I followed that same thread on Probetalk.com also. Jose finally gave you a price??? That's great!
I contacted Jose also last week about phenolic spacers but he didn't give me a price. He only said that he would make them out of better material than Sean and charge us less than Sean. But then gave me the URL to Sean Morgan's webpage for all the full explanation and writeup of phenolic spacers. I thought that was a strange and lazy thing for Jose to do.
However, I personally spoke to Sean Morgan yesterday. He came out to our autocross in San Diego, California and spent some time looking at my engine and other 2.0L Probe engines. He told me that a lot more thought goes into making these phenolic spacers, You can't just cut the material in the shape of the head gaskets and expect it to work. He even showed me how the pattern and thickness of the material was considerred as to not interfere or change the effectiveness of the fuel mixture jets located near the edge of the intake manifold. Sean's other considerations were clearance to the hood and firewall once the spacers were installed.
I think it's great that there are now 2 sources for these phenolic spacers (Sean & Jose) I know many of the 2.5L Probe owners who now have Sean's spacers installed can attest to his quality. But the *new* spacers for the 2.0L Probe (regardless who made them) should be scrutinized a little bit. At this point Jose's price looks good but I just feel a lot more comfortable using those from Sean. However I'll recontact Jose and see what information he is willing to provide. I hope he can provide me with a less "lazy" answer.
