Hi, I have a question and hopefully you guys can help me out. I have a 00 GT and when it's under a load at high RPMs, it pings like it's running hot. I've put a scanner on it and everything seems to be working correctly. (I'll try to explain this as best as possible) I have two sensors mounted in the engine bay, one is grounded to a bolt on the water outlet and the other by the alt. They both have a white wire w/ a light blue strip that plugs into it. I unplugged these sensors and now seems to be running properly. Does anyone know what these sensors are??? I run mid grade gas and high test on occasion but doesn't make a diff. When I do run high test the car sometimes idles rough and stalls in the morning with a cool engine. Thanks in advance, Danny

I have a 00 GT with the same problem. When I took it in for its 60K service they found a disconnected PCV hose and loose are filter housing. It helped a little but it still pings noticeably when I climb hills at even 40 mph or accelerate even a little hard. I have to baby it to drive without pinging. I don't think the GT was meant to be driven this way. In the old days we could just hook up our timing lights and retard it a bit but with all the computerization and anti-tamper devices, I'm afraid to touch it. As far as I'm concerned, if the owners manual says to run 87 octane, it should be able to. Does anyone know any simple under hood adjustments I can make? I can't keep taking days off work while they experiment or give it the sunshine treatment. How about double platinum plugs or the Tornado fuel saver?

I've had it in the shop 4 times now for this problem and still no luck. The last time they "cleaned the induction system" (whatever that means) and it stopped pinging for about 2 weeks. Now it's back. Between that and $3 a gallon gas I think I'll just give up and trade it in for a Honda Civic when I get near the end of the 75K warranty (it now has 67K miles). My last American car!
