Thanks for reading, my girlfriend has a 96 SE and she's having a hell of a time with it. Let me tell you what's happening and see if anyone knows what's wrong. If you have any ideas, please email me at TimH4ISU@.... Ok, here it goes: It runs ok most of the time, but sometimes it will act as if the engine is cutting out almost, especially at highway speeds. It doesnt sound like the engine shuts off or anything, it just feels like it loses alot of power, then when it gets it back it jolts you back into the seat. She's changed her fuel filter and that didnt help. She's taken it to a shop twice, the last time for 7 hours, and they can't figure it out. The car was hooked up to a diagnostics computer and it read "RUNNING LEAN" and "VACUUM LEAK." A friend of mine suggested valve cover gaskets, but the mechanic doesnt believe that to be it. ANY clue?? Thanks for your help! Tim 93 SE

Sounds like the Mass Air Flow Sensor (MA). My 94 PSE did the same thing and when I replaced the MA it made all the difference.

I had a similar problem with my 96 probe se. At first I thought it was the O2 sensor, but it turned out to be the MAF. I bought some electronic parts cleaner and a torx bit set to take apart the MAF. Then spray the eletronic parts cleaner onto the the two little prongs on the sensor part of the MAF. Kinta, 96 PSE
