I picked up my new ZX3 on Sunday. So far, great car. Here is the question: I paid US$11,550, plus sales tax (Florida 6%). It has the premium and power packages. Sticker is $14,500. One friends tell me I got a great price, another tells me I should have done better, since it is year end. What do you all think?

RTS

For a 2001, new vehicle at end of year, that is an excellent price. You can always haggle and pit one dealer's price against anothers. Did you shop around? Did you price them online?
A good reference place for all things auto is Edmunds.com
The list price is what you need to look at when buying a vehicle. The MSRP is the high end prices that you will be told you have to pay. That is a crock.
There are also fees that are complete rip-offs as well. Especially Document (Doc.) fees. If you are financing through your own bank or financial institution, these fees are almost completely unecessary. A Doc fee should only be around $50-$100 at the most. If they are telling you you have to pay a Doc. fee of $150-$200 they are ripping you off.
I have a link I will add to the links area in this club. It's a great resource for buying and selling cars as well as dealing with garages.
Have fun with your new car!
I get mine in October! Can't wait.
~Chelly

Chelly,

Thanks for the repsonse. Carsdirect.com had about the same price that I got. You are right about the Doc fees. the dealer tried to charge $299.95. In the box on the contract that listed what Doc Fees covered, it included many things, including "additional profit". I told the dealer that they were already making a profit, so I was comfortable with a Doc fee of $0. THat is what I paid.
