First of all any combustion engine is capable of turbocharging or
supercharging. I would have to say that the 2.0L Probe would be an easy
custom install for reasons mention earlier, that there is ample room in the
engine bay of our cars.
I know of one gentleman, by the name of Robin, who lives in Florida. He is
currently running a Turbo/NOS 2.0L Probe running mid 12's. He is battling
with drive axle components now as they are breaking on him. Anyway, South
Florida Performance (305-233-8520) is the shop that did his custom install.
I have talked with the shop myself, and they are more than willing to do
another. They will charge you about $4k, but this includes the fuel system
upgrades, electrical system upgrades as well as all the turbo assessories,
plus you can choose the components you would perfer. Or if you are the
do-it-yourselfer, like myself, you can pick up the turbo headers from them
for $400.
I have talked for a few hours with Geoff Knight. I will say he is a very
nice guy, who loves his work, and his very competent with turbos. The only
downfall I have heard about Geoff's work is that he is kind of sloppy. In
other words the asthetics of his "goods" is rather low, which really bugs
me, as I look for perfection, often to the point that I am considered anal.
But if you are looking for someone who to do the kit for you he would
certainly be a option. You would just have to "clean" everything up along
the way, to make it look good. Please note that the remarks on his work was
purely gathered from comments of others who have seen his work.
I have been spending a little time researching a turbo setup on our cars, as
that is my final goal once I upgrade my fuel and electrical systems for a
NOS setup, as this will reduce that costs of installing the turbo, as there
will already be ample fuel.
I would love to see some more force feed 2.0L Probes.
