My car is idling very weird, it goes up then down then way down. When I accelerate hard the car sputters and jerks, but is fine under soft acceleration. Also, the muffler sounds like it is spitting when idling. What could be wrong. I had similar symptoms before, but I changed the wires/plugs and it went away for a week, now there is something else wrong. Also, what could be causing low oil pressure? My gauge is very low and doesn't move at all when accelerating like it use to, also since then my lifters have become very noisy....I had an oil change about a month ago so everything should be ok there. Please help, I need advice.... Thanks, marc 93'PSE Veilside wing, Akimoto intake/Weapon R filter, Borla muffler, NGK wires/Bosch platinum plugs

hello, more than likely you have a bad throtle position sensor. it is located on the side of the throttle body and cost about $80 @ carparts.com. if it has lost power in the take off and idels rough its prob the tps. another possibilty is it could be the MAF Mass Air Flow Sensor but if it smooths out at higher rpm's it is prob not the maf. i would get a tps and if it doesnt work, which it should, try a MAF sensor but be ready to pay nothing under $300 for it

If you have a MTX transmission with the EEC IV computer you could check the codes and find out if it really is the TPS or MAF. I don't know if anyone knows that pre '96 2.0L's with the MTX do have a way to check the engine codes. If you want any info let me know and I can post the procedure. I found this out after paying $120.00 just to hook it up to the diagnostic computer at a local shop. All you need is a paper clip and a test light! If you pay $300 dollars to have the MAF sensor replaced, you got SCREWED! The part is little more than a hundred dollars, and anyone with any mechanical ability can instal it in half an hour.

You very well be able to to more car work than I can, I didn't even change my own timing belt, so what? I did replace my MAF, and I did it myself in about half an hour with a part I bought from Advanced Auto Parts for about $100 dollars. (It was a while ago, I don't remember exactly) $100 for the part + 1/2 hour of work @ $65 an hour (typical rate for a garage) = if you paid $300, you got screwed. (anyone, not locustfork)

Its funny that you mentioned looking at carparts.com, because when I went there and looked around for a MAF (you're link didn't work because it requires that carparts.com has previously written into your cookie file what make/model/year of car to look for) I found one for 93.75. Now this is where the confusion may have begun, Locustfork, to you have a 2.0L or a 2.5L, because the meters for the 2.5L are easily three times that in cost. I sometimes for get that 2.5L owners make comments about there engines assuming we'll know its a 2.5L on this 2.0L list.

Well, I figured out my problem...it wasn't any sensors, but a bad wire. I did the wire check and found it. The thing is, these wires are fairly new...I put one of my old wires that I saved when I switched and it runs smooth now. Next thing to do is buy a new oil pump to fix the noisy lifters...Thanks to all who responded to my question though. Marc
