You guys seem to have a point with the hla's,but if that would be the problem, wouldnt it do it all the time?? Right now,it only does it when I tap the gas,and only then,(accelerating, revving up engine in neutral) no other time It's really dumb! And like i say, when i use fuel injector cleaner,it goes away for 2 tankfulls, then comes back! HELP!

my 95 2.0 does that...it only ticks when i first start it up or if i sit at
idol for a little bit.. i tried some oil treatment and it didnt help that
much .. went away for a little.. it is a lifter but the only reason it is
doing it i "think" is because the oil pump is too weak to get enough oil
circulated up top when it is idoling.. i will prolly try to replace the oil
pump soon

mine used to start ticking once it had ben runing for about 10 minutes until
i changed the oil pump plunger, which was suposed to stop the air from
getting into the oil, but instead it starts ticking right away now and my
check engine light comes on. to top that off i went to trade it in and they
were gonna give me $900 for it! its a 95 in very good condition exept for the
ticking!

the oil pump itself is not weak... its just that there was a defect in the manufacturing of the earlier oil pumps used where the oil plunger would not seat properly and it could cause air to enter the oil and cause bleeding down of the hydraulic lash adjusters.... HLA's... that's what you hear as tapping/ticking...the HLA's dont have enough oil in it to stay up so its starts making contact withthe camlobes... causing rounding.. which in turn can lead to less power from what i hear.. but im not totally sure about it though...
