1996 and newer vehicles are supposedly OBD-2, and code scanners for these are relatively cheap. Personally I don't ever expect to own a vehicle that new, and it bugs me that OBD-1 scanners just are not available any more, unless as a combo unit with the OBD-2. Ray Mac

I just looked on line for OBD-1 scanner and found an Equus digital code scanner for 1982-95 Ford cars and trucks at Kragen auto supply for $29.99. kragen part no 3145. You can buy on line from Kragen.com

It doesn't take a scanner to read codes on Ford products built before the '96 model year.

I suppose having a jack under the dash with a cover backs up this fact that it's OBD-2...I was hoping there was a way to jumper something and get a flash code from a bulb though - dang - thanks a bunch for the info.

As an FYI, 95 Windstars are OBD-2. Not sure about the Aerostar.   Bob

Probably because the 95 Windstars came out in mid year (IIRC). The 95 Aero is the older OBD I   Walmart now has the OBD II readers - quite expensive ($69 and $99) for a handheld data interface. Might try one I saw on ebay, same brand as the Walmart ones but a little less flashy and more basic - $30.

If you have a laptop, this is a good option. www.obd-2.com   In addition to pulling codes, you can use it to log all the OBD2 parameters as you drive.   Bob

This would be an option as well. Costs more, but it can handle all the manufacturer-specific sensor codes: http://www.autoenginuity.com/index.html Rad
