Hello, I have some more questions. The first question has to do with fuel and additives. The highest octane I can get at the pumps is 91 which is lower than recommended. Is something like a lead substitute helpful or is another additive better to use? Or is it not necessary or harmful?

My next question is about car security. I plan to use my Mustang as my summer daily driver and I have some worries. What can be done to prevent my car from being stolen? What do you guys use/recommend?

Lastly, the coil-springs on my Mustang make it ride about 1in too low. Someone recommended stretching the springs or is it more worth-while to just purchase new ones?

Thanks a lot.

Robert, As far as fuel additives, there used to be one called Octane Boost. I don't know if it is still available, but, you might try looking for it. Also, I am not sure as to how well it works, as I have never used it.   Along the lines of security, there are more effective means than car alarms. The most effective seems to be a starter disable circuit. These should be available through a common parts house, but, if not, you should be able to find them through someone along the lines of Summit Racing.   Last, it seems that the most effective method of getting your ride back to its stock height would be to have the springs replaced. Reworked springs have a tendancy to start sagging sooner than new ones. The question is really a matter of affordability. I know that you should be able to pick up a set of new springs for around $100 US. I don't know what it would cost to have the current spring reworked...   --Jason

Another option would be to remove the heads and rework the valve seats, as here, the Regular, leaded gas is no longer available, due to government restrictions. (Bureaucrats, anyway!) You will have to have the valve seats hardened. As for the concerns over the octane of the fuel, you would have to reduce the compression to run the regular gas. I run low grade (about 89 octane) and don't notice too many problems, but, my pony has been taken out and opened up in quite a long time. Hopefully, I will be able to get it road-worthy in a few more years. Good luck, and have fun. Jason
