Just wondering if anyone can assist with some parking light troubles.
On my 2.0 litre 1988 2WD Ranger the problem is that I have no
rear 'parking' lights, regardless if the truck is (key in) running or
not and switch on.
This is an issue as you cannot see me from behind at night unless I'm
signalling or braking.
Regardless of pulling the parking/driving light switch to either the
parking or driving light position, there is no illumination from the
rear lights. There is, strangely, the front marker and driving
lights on. I have not removed the swith as its behind the instrument
cluster. Is anyone familiar with it enough to know if the parking
light switch has two tabs; one circuit to the front parking lights
and one circuit to the rear parking lights??
I've checked the fuses which have tested alright and changed rear
lamps.
The connections from the wiring harness under the rear bumper is in
good shape and found voltage (+11.7v) on the 'parking' tab in the
lamp holder. The Turning/Brake filaments did test properly (as this
is a different circuit) & work properly. As you may know, the bulb is
a typical two filament lamp.
Also - I checked the Ground inside the rear lamp holder to the
vehicle body and there was continuity to ground.
I cannot understand how there could be voltage right to the lamp
holder but not enought to illuminate the rear lamps. I'm thinking
high resistance, but again the lamps were replaced. (the same lamp
has the brake and signal function work fine..)
Help! I can't drive at night..
