Hi Gang,
Well, while we're on the subject of rearend assemblies packing it in,
I'll tell you about my wiper arm.
About 4 weeks ago I got fed up with my rear wiper blade, which was
missing the majority of the window when it wiped. It had been getting
progressively worse as the winter wore on, and you could see some
white corrosion at the main pivot point on the arm. I figured it just
needed a cleaning, but since I'm still under warranty, I took it to
the dealer.
Well, guess what... the problem was indeed a corroded pivot, and the
solution? ...replace the entire arm and blade asssembly after cutting
the whole thing off with a saw! Apparently the way they are mounted
through the glass has caused Ford to break (and replace) way too many
rear windows, and it turns out to be cheaper in the long run just to
cut the darned thing off and replace it, instead of trying to work the
corrosion out of it. They said I'm not the first one to report this
issue, so Escape owners would be wise to keep an eye on their rear
wiper arm for corrosion.
In case you're interested, this is the parts list:
2L8Z-17526-AA Rear wiper arm assembly
WW-1001 Rear wiper blade assembly
Cheers!
