I am getting ready to build my 88GT convertible motor from the ground up. I plan on Twisted Wedge aluminum heads, GT40 or Cobra intake, MOTORSPORT cam, and of course bearings rods and the like. I am very interested in getting components that work well together as a system. Any guideance will be appreciated. For example, should I go with the GT40 intake or the Cobra intake? What are the benifits to each? Do I need to upgrade injectors when I do all of this or are stock injectors ok? Will I still be able to get through emissions?
My target or goal is 300 - 350 horses. I want to be able to spank camaros and the new mustangs.

I also plan on doing suspension, so any thoughts will be appreciated on that too. As it is a ragtop I suppose that SUBFRAME connectors will be needed. Type and place to get them will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Casey

The GT-40 intake from what I understand is now smog legal, if you have the $$$ then go with that intake it has larger intake tubes and will boost higher rpm power, the cobra will keep your power lower, so its really a matter of what yuo want. You may want to upgrade your fuel pump to 110 lt/hr or 150 and go with 24 lb. injectors which also means getting your mas-air meter recolibrated for 24 lb. injectors you can also get a new meter from Pro-M or C&L. As for suspension, I recommend a place called Maximum Motorsports, their street car has dominated a couple race cars in the slalom and other tests on road courses, they make torque tubes(which will be your best aid for traction) control arms, camber/caster plates, killer sub frame connectors, and they still have a whole bunch of other stuff coming out.

(805)544-8748
http://www.maximummotorsports.com

If you want that kind of power, go with a Holley Systemax 2 package (1999.00) Comes with Upper, lower intake, heads, cam, everything. In the suspension go with a AJE Y2K Member to shave 40 pounds and its accompanying subfram connectors. That oughta do.

If you want some suggestions on emmissions legal parts. For AZ try Going to the Lopers on 9th St. and Indian School Rd. Almost all of the guys there drive fuel injected stangs that are modifide. A guy there named Ben had 5 different 5.0's last I knew. Another place you might want to try in is All Mustangs THere on 40th St. south of University on the west side of the road. But their prices are high.

My opinion for that kind of power would be to use the Edelbrock intake. I heard the Performer RPM might be emmissions legal. For cams go with Crane Cams has alot of emmisions legal cams. And AFR has the highest flowing emmisions legal heads avalible in in 165 and 185 cc intake ports. The 165 is more for 5.0's the 185 is more for 351's. If your looking into strokers try Coast High Performance 347 kit. It includes crank, rods, pistons, rings and cam. Their cam is probly the hottest emmissions cam on the market.
