Hello All, I'm currently looking at buying a remote start / keyless entry system for my 1997 Crown Victoria LX. Circuit City and Best Buy have similar prices for their house-brand systems, about $250 with installation. Has anyone had any negative (or positive) experiences with remote start units in Crown Victorias of about that age? Thanks, Jon jblatman@...

Yes it's a nice luxury option although it has become relatively affordable now. I would really like one because the heat doesn't come on right away when you start it up here in the winter.

I was quoted US$850 for an alarm + remote starter (Mazda dealer). That was ridiculous.

So, I opted to go to a reputable auto audio/security shop and got a better system for much less. It consisted of:
1) Viper 550ESP w/ 2 remotes
2) Viper 555U (module that holds the extra key)
3) 3rd key (cut by dealer; self-programmed)

Installation was very clean and professional, of course. There are plenty of benefits and features:
+ autostart is programmable (can start while you sleep to warm up engine every x hours during coldest winters)
+ auto locking of doors after ~5 seconds when ignition is turned to "ON" position
+ auto arming/locking/etc. after 30 seconds once engine is off and doors are closed
+ selectable zones (i.e. ignore heavy rain or 18-wheeler passing by)
+ usual other features (ignition kill, fuel-line kill, glass breakage sensor, etc.)

There are a couple of drawbacks though:
- had to use the wider Viper remotes instead of the smaller factory ones
- lost the 2-stage unlock, so disarming meant unlocking all doors

Sorry for the long post. Hope this helps.

Yes, i did when I bought the Escape.
Mine costed around 650 and the brand is Sherlock.
At the time my dealer told me it was the only one who would "merge" with the alarm system of the escape.

The reason is much higher is that they have to find a system which will accept a chip like in the key.

Hope this answer your question.

Louis
