Can someone with a shop manual help me out? Ive been trying to figure out a problem on my brother PSE (96). The problem is it keeps setting a code P0171 System Too Lean. I cleared it but it comes right back the next day. I think it might be the splice I did on the O2 sensor is failing again and the car thinks its running lean, so we are trying to track down a complete sensor we wont have to splice. Did anyone ever find one outside of a dealer for a reasonable price ($80 or so). We do know the fuel filter needs to be replaced again too, but I dont think its so blocked that it would set a code. Outside of that im out of ideas. Anyone have a shop manual to look this up in? Thanks in advance. Dedric Ramsey #173 GS '99 Cougar http://www.avana.net/~dedric/

Dedric, I've been watching the obsence prices for us lucky SE owers with 2 ~ O2 sensors. I probably should have replaced mine a long time ago but everytime I've checked its droped another $10 or $15 dollars. Started off as about $350 from Ford for one and around $215 for the cheapest after market I could find (without doing the splice job you had, would have but I just haven't been able to make the time). Check at the beginning of this week ~ again (bet my parts guy is about tired of me buggin him).... local shop - Borg Warner Sensor $150 1yr warrenty Carparts.com - Borg Warner $109.70 1yr warrenty Autopartsgaint.com - Bosch $185.19 doesn't say So the price is getting better... maybe someday it will be down where it should be. Think I'm going to cash in on the the deal at Carparts.com, tired of the bad gas mileage. One thing I don't understand, Borg Warner only has 1- part # that's suppost to work for both sensors and Bosch has 2 different part #'s for the front and rear (same price). Wonder what the difference is? Hope this helped. Laters, DaStonedSmurf@... Fred Laughlin '96 PSE 5-Spd K&N Drop~in Primax 17" Rims Thumpin System Tinted Windows Matrix Pedals
