Please excuse me for sounding like an idiot, but I am a new Probe owner.  I have just purchased a 97 Gold 2 liter and have joined the group.  I love the 2nd generation Probes and feel they are a gorgeous car who has not been done justice by the general public.

My question is this.  I have been reading your messages and visiting various webstites, and am confused.  My car has received a custom paint job and has not distinguishing decals to tell me what it is.  How do you tell whether the car is a Probe SE or a base model for this model year?  I do not have the large orange marker lights as some site say.  I have smaller clear/orange ones, but other than that, I am unsure of the designation for my car.   Can anyone help a new owner out?  I want to make sure I order the correct products to improve my already great car.

Thanks.
Scott

Great.  So any accessories listed for the Probe will work with my car as long as it is not for the PGT???

Wow, any chance you bought that car in Hagerstown?? Well, anyway, I believe that is considered the base model. 97 was the last year for the beautiful Probes and they made 3 models, yours being the cheapest(pricewise of course) They also had the GT and the "Special Edition" GTS. For some reason though, yours is called a base model, but does come with the SE Appearence package. Hope that helps.

It won't matter if it's an SE or Base when you order parts. The only differences betweeen the cars is a name, and in earleir models(93-95)the SE had ground effects on it. HTH, Steve

Thanks for all the information.  I am glad that there are people out there who know about these cars.  I look forward to hearing more about them.

By the way, I bought the car in Enumclaw, Washington...........

There do not seem to be many Probes in my area at all, let alone a gold one.  I see one or two every so often.
I just got mine back from the shop.  Had the windows tinted with 30% film in a slight smoke/gold tint.  It made the car 100% better, or should I say different.  A spoiler and some ground effects are on the list for future upgrades as well.

I guarantee your car is a SE then. b/c the lights are the #1 way of distinguising base from se models. wheels, spoilers and all of that doesnt help b/c in different years they mixed different wheels and added spoilers to some but not all..... so yeah the lights are clear-orange then you own an probe se. >

Hey Scott.  I'm glad to hear that you live in Enumscratch.  I live in Redmond, so there are some other Probe listers in your area.  Right now I'm trying to get ahold of the NW Probe Owners Club, if it still exists.  I'll give you some info if I can reach them. See ya.   Jordan 94 Base

Jordan
I just bought it in Enumclaw.  I live in Kent and work in Kirkland.  It is great.  I am getting about 30-34 MPG.  Big switch from my 95 F-150.

I would appreciate anything you find about an owners club around here.  Worst comes to worst, someone can start it up again.
