The seatbelt chime and dome light have started staying for a number of minutes rather than stopping 5 seconds after putting the key in the ignition.

I tried removing the fuse (#27) to the dome/glovebox/map lights to see if that would disable the chime. The chime still came on but did quit in 5 seconds. That led me to think the problem could be with one of these lights. I noticed the left map light seems to be burnt out. But I can't figure out how to get the globe off. There is a little slot on the back of the globe that a small screw drivre will fit in, but a moderate amount of prying and pulling didn't get the globe off.

Anyone know if the chime problem could be caused by a burnt out bulb? And how do you remove the ceiling light globe to change a bulb.

Thanks

I have heard of the Dome light staying on thing, on the Ford Truck Enthusiasts website. I don't know what exactly they did to cure it.

They have a Ranger message board over there too. You might want to check it out.

http://www.ford-trucks.com

Go to the message boards, and then scroll down to Ranger. There is a lot of good information on their site. I know, I am one of the members, but I have learned a lot myself.

They said they sprayed some WD-40 in the key lock and that cured it according to the Ford-trucks forum. Can't wait to try it on mine, my seatbelt chime chimes my dome lights stay on, I'll keep you posted.Another post said to spray electronic cleaner,it wasn't oily to collect dust and dirt.

Inside the door panel are two switches one is door chime other is dome light. Mine used to stick so I went to Ford. They sais the switches get dirty and stick , and /or the swithes break causing the chime and/or lights to stay on. The mechanic said the parts are on a national back order because it's a common problem in Rangers. I just diconnected mine on the driver side. Passenger side the light still works, and I can still turn on the lights with either of the switches.
