Do you think that buying those second cars is worth it? I think that its better to save your money to buy a new one because you will only end up spending more on repairing it.

I would prefer to buy a well maintained one or two year old car as a new car loses so much residual value the moment it leaves the garage forecourt.

I think a car that is 2 or 3 years old with a good service history is the best bet because of depreciation. It depends on your circumstances and the type of car of course, and to some extent it depends on luck. When I got my new Ford I kept my old Nissan because my oldest daughter was almost ready to drive, the new car has cost me a fortune in repairs and the old one (now well over 10 yrs old) is still going strong and hardly ever needs any work.

I so agree with you on buying a nice one to two year car. When you buy new as soon as you take it off of that lot you have lost value. I have had a lot of good luck with used cars.

I can't agree with you guys because the longer the car runs the more it affects its performance. How could you enjoy something that will give you a lot of headache?

It will not give you a lot of headaches. As I said before the car that has given me the most headaches I had from new! I think you are confusing the age of the vehicle and the mileage of the vehicle. I wouldn't buy a two year old car that had been driven into the ground, but I would be happy to buy one that had low mileage and was in good condition. Obviously I would have it checked before I bought it. I think the most important thing is to consider what you want from the car and then choose the make model and age according to your requirements. I want economy, therefore I wouldn't waste my money by buying a brand new car.

Thanks for explaining it to me because I thought that older car tends to broke down on the roads. I have have it most of the time. I don't know that it was the mileage factor.

I think there is a certain amount of luck involved when you buy any type of car, but with a used car mileage and full service history are significant factors. Cars do not thrive on neglect and whether buying a new or used car it is important to maintain the car properly and to do basic checks like oil and water regularly. If you treat your car well there is no reason why it should be unreliable.

A car that's only a couple of years old may well still be under the manufacturers warranty, but check that it's transferrable before you rely on it.

I think that you are off the topic because this thread is about second had cars and you are talking about maintaining a car. Do you see some resemblance?

For me to buy a brand new car, it would have to be an awesome deal. I don't think those deals exist. I'd probably go with the 2 to 4 year old with low mileage and good service history.
