I have a 95 with an automatic on the shift knob it has a button that says O/D off. What is this for and could I put on an aftermarket shift knob without the hole for it or do I have to keep it there Tim '95 Base

Tim, how long have you had your car? It is to shut off the overdrive in your transmission, thus lowering the final drive gearing in your transmission. << Have a 95 with an automatic on the shift knob it has a button that says O/D off? i have a 96 and i have the O/D button as well...you can still put on an aftermarket shift knob...i use momo automatic shift knob, but you can use any aftermarket automatic shifter...just unscrew and take apart your stock knob...then a wire should be connected to it...you can just cut it and strip the two ends of it...i bought a push button switch from radio shack (make sure it's not the push on/off one where it locks)...then just rewire the wires to the switch and keep them in place with electrical tape or something...i drilled a hole through under the key release and rewired the switch there, but you can put it anywhere you want...then you can keep the O/D button...hope this helps Ralph

Tim, O/D is your over drive. If you push the button, it will cut out the high gear on your car. It't there for going up mountains, things like that so your transmission doesn't keep shifting up and down. I don't know if you can cut out the button or not.. Hope this helps.... Dominick 94se...no mods yet.....

My shifter knob will twist right off, it has threads on the stick and threads up in the knob.
