Greeting all...
Took my wife to the Houston Zoo today, as she has been bugging me to take
her for weeks.
While going home, I was sitting at a redlight about 100 feet from the
entrance ramp. The light turns green, I punch it, and rev it to about
4,500 rpm before grabbing second. When I let the clutch out, the rpms
momentarilly stayed at about 4,000 rpm before the clutch grabbed. The rest
of the way home I never noticed slipping again, even when accelerating hard
in higher gears.
So, I'm pretty sure my clutch is on the way out. I'm not too pissed, she
is a '94 with about 55,000 somewhat-city miles on her.
My questions: How long do y'all think I've got before I'm stranded on the
side of the minus a clutch? How much should I look to pay for a new
clutch? What should I replace it with? The car has very few mods (K&N,
Magnecore wires, Hella H4's, etc), and is going to be used just as a
commuter vehicle for my wife, so I don't need performance, just something
that will last...
Thanks,
Ben
