Hello all. I will start with the traditional "I'm new to the group" and then on to my problem. I have an '89 with a 351W that runs sluggish in the lower RPM range. It doesn't really hesitate, just lacks power (possibly running rich) until about 2200 RPMs. It also appears to be connected to the weather. It seems to run fine in cool or humid weather but acts up as the outside temp raises. Engine temp seems to have no effect. I'm not sure whether I am getting incomplete combustion or if it is truly running rich (there is a gas smell occasionally). I am considering an ignition amplifier but want to hear other suggestions before spending the 300 or so dollars. Also would like to get some feedback about ignition amplifiers from people who have them. Thanks for any help.

When was the last time your plugs, wires, etc. were changed? Bob

Dawn and Bob, Thanks for the suggestions but I don't think these are the problems. My truck is fuel injected and the plugs, wires, cap and rotor have less than 4,000 miles on them. I also checked the coil and it ohms out ok. Another thing I was thinking about was the MAP sensor since the problem seems to be related to the weather. It runs better in cool or humid weather when the air is heavier. Does anyone know how to test it? What about the oxygen sensor, though I have never had an intermittent problem with my other vehicles when the O2 sensor went bad?

I know this sounds unrelated but check your fuel filter. At low rpms it can affect everything if its partially clogged. Weather may be coincidental. I chased down a problem similar to this and thats what it turned out to be. They're only about 10-15 $ and you can put it in yourself. Observe all safety precautions and refer to the manual. / steve

Thanks for the suggestion, Steve but it ended up being a couple of clogged injectors. As you can see, I changed my screen ID. I got deployed to the desert and couldn't remember my old info when I got back. God bless the USA. Gene
