It has stalled 6 times and the techs at your
dealer say "no one else has ever complained about this
problem (to US)" They are ignorant so educate them and
yourself so you can get action out of them. Go through the
many many posts on stalling of the duratec on Yahoo
and Edmunds Escape and Tribute clubs and cut and
paste printouts of the best to show your dealer. For
example try this one: There is a recent post at Yahoo
Escape club site by Escapetek. The solution is replacing
a PCM relay in the fuse box under hood. Try tap on
it with back end of screw driver, if engine stalls,
you found the cause of stalling. He works at Ford
dealer , said he fixed many Escapes that way. Also:Have
the dealer check the PCM RELAY and IDLE SPEED. Please
let us know what they determine is the cause. Also:
Simple. You remove the plastic cover from top the engine.
Three nuts hold it on. You adjust the throttle stop
screw on front of the throttlebody. Mine is set to idle
at 800 rpm. Turn clockwise to open the throttle
plate. Then loosen the 10mm bolt on the ECM. The
connector will push off. Leave off for 5 minutes to RESET
the ECM. Reattache the connector and start truck. It
will take a couple of days for the ECM to relearn.
Escapemax. Also: I am a Ford tek . I am the one that told
escapemax how to adjust (Base Idle) We do it all day long
,and it is Fords recommendation to raise base idle to
prevent stalling on downhill coast. The IAC is set at
approx.35%, which means the throttle plates are slightly
open. Some GM and others set theirs at around 15% or
throttle plates are almost closed. The PCM has to have a
base idle to start with. Adjusted my own Escapes idle
to prevent downhill stalling. Any questions feel
free to ask .Dan, Ford Master Tek Re: Stalling..
escapetek: To check if your "Base Idle" is set too low
,unplug the IAC when running, if it stalls then base idle
is set to low, if it stays running then it should be
ok. We set base idle by monitoring IAC air ratios in
percentages not rpm.By turning base idle screw (clockwise)
lowers the percentage but not actualy rasing rpm unless
you turn to much. IAC should be around 35% .Can only
monitor with a enhanced scan tool otherwise you are
expermenting with air ratios. If you adjust so it wont stall
when u unplug the IAC u should be close. Also dirty
throttlebodys raise IAC percentages. PCM must not rely on IAC
to stay running...Dan

The two simple fixes
are...Base idle too low,simple adjustment,Replacing the EEC
relay with one from an Explorer..Fixes approx.90% of
stalling problems.Have complete "LIST" of possible causes
but have yet run across any that has caused stalling
other than the relay and base idle adjustment.ESCAPETEK
