Hey everyone, I posted a few questions a couple weeks ago and got no replies... maybe I asked too many questions. I've found the answers for all of them now but one: Is the steering box in my 88 Crown Vic interchangeable with a steering box with a tighter gear ratio, such as one from a Mustang or other smaller Ford? I want to get rid of my mushy sluggish steering and am not trying to replace the rack and pinion. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Hi im back, Ive been sick for a why'll but Im feeling better. Well alex...... I dunno, I think one off a 82-89 mustang will work. But most steering you'll find is going to be sluggish kinda. I believe you can just get a differnt steering pump and fitting or a valve that will let you change your steering. Its not all in the steering box. I have a 1984 ford F-250 built truck and I put a power steering pump for a big F-350 dulli desiel ( cause it has a higher out put and I wanted a faster steering ) and with a tiny modifications ( not much, just had to cut the wheel well boot and put a differnt bracket ) it made the steering faster ( the F-350 is a heavy truck so it need more power steering, the F-250 is a lighter truck and need less steering thus = faster steering cause less wait ) Really the steering in my 1985 is not sluggish at all......... its rather tight. another thing is to check your tie-rods for steering, they maybe warn out or not greesed right. All kinds of little thing make up for steering. Remember for a 1988 it had 15 years of steering on it. also sometimes the whieghts of steering fluid too will help. In pro-stock racing they use a thicker fluid for a tighter and harder steering so they go stait. Some dont really use a pump at all but your not going to hit 130mph with it tho. I hope this helps a little. Blue Steel
