Help, I have a 94 Ford ranger xlt 4 x 4. It had a bad motor mount on the passengers side and I had it replaced, now the 5 speed manual shifter is stuck in first gear and I can't get it to change to any other gear. The Hi - Lo range selecter still works but I need help in determining what to do to fix the problem. Please send me any thoughts you may have that will help me out of this jam. Thanks chsmith@...

Did the transmission work a while after the motor mount got replaced? or did it immediately quit working? It is a 94, so it is fairly old, and your most likely have a cable clutch. Did you have to press the clutch all the way to the floor to get it to change before the change? I'm wondering if the motor mount made the engine and tranny sag, basically tightening the clutch cable, then when the mount is replaced the engine and tranny lifted, leaving slack in the cable. There is an adjustment for the cable on the pedal. This was some by slamming the pedal to the floor and then poping the clutch (not running) Do this several times and see if you can get it out of 1st. If so you need to replace the cable. If you start the truck with it in first, does it jump forward although you have the pedel pushed down? Or does it not move at all? If it does jump forward the cable isn't getting far enough to dis-engage the clutch. Also how much tension does the clutch pedel have, more or less than before? Just pray its the clutch cable swap / adjustment. . .I'm working on the hydraulic clutch system for my mr2. . . *sigh* HTH - Hadrian Chris Robertson
