I was looking into lowering my ZX3 but I don't understand all the suspension talk. Could I just replace my springs with 1.5" lowering springs? Would that affect the handling negatively? Any help is appreciated.

I'm pretty sure it would kill your handling. Adding just a shortened spring only will decrese your spring rate but the stroke on your dampers will remain the same. You want you shorten your spring rate and the distance your dampers travel. If you are looking for a very good suspension, check out the Spax coilovers. You can adjust ride height and stiffness. They will run you about $900.
