HELP! Since I got my new amp put in, this is the second time my temperature control knob has gone funky on me. It turns a little bit but stays more or less near the middle. (between hot and cold) The first time this happened was about an hour after I had it installed. I took it back and the installer fixed it for me. I'd take it back again, but the shop is about 80 miles from here and I'm working 7 days a week now. I pulled the head unit out and looked at the wiring on it, and everything seems fine. I couldn't "see" anything being blocked, but the knob still won't turn all the way left or right. Anyone had this problem themselves? Any ideas? thanks in advance. ;) Alex G. 95 base K&N filter and custom exhaust

not on the amp, on the center console, the hot and cold selector knob for the vents. i havent had this problem but i would assume that they damaged the knob when they put the head unit in. check the wiring to the back of the knob and see if it is damaged scott 93SE

That temp control know has many mechanical linkages (especially just behind the glove box). Did you run any of your new amp wires there? If you did that is most likely the problem. -Lino Sacman, SCPOC '93 Rio-Red PSE, 5-spd

Actually, the new wires may have been in the way, but I don't see them blocking anything anymore. I thought I had it fixed last night. But apparently it's not over yet. The white plastic track that the metal arm seems to go in is open on either end. The long curved end seems fine but if I turn the knob the other way it falls out of the track and is stuck. <shrug> Maybe the cable needs to be adjusted? Am I missing a piece? a spring maybe? Alex G. 95 base Thanks again for all the help everyone. :)

Did you do the stereo install yourself or had it done at some professional shop? This is going to sound bad but if so, then there is the other possibility is that the stereo shop accidentally dropped a tool or some object down your center ducts. At the bottom of the center ducts is a door that is opened and closed by your temperature knob. An object dropped down that center duct could block that duct door and prevent it from openning and closing. Now since that duct door is connected to your temperature knob it would likewise give you trouble turning that temperature knob. -Lino Sacman, SCPOC '93 Rio-Red PSE, 5-spd

It was "profesionally" installed. But if I reach back behind the console and turn the "knob" in back, everything works fine. I just can't control it with the knob in the center console anymore. :( Alex G. 95 base K&N filter and custom exhaust (&broken temp. knob)

You "can't control it with the knob"? Is it because the knob just spins (broken or stripped teeth in knob) or do you run into too much resistance when you try to turn the knob. If it's resistance then recheck the routing of the wiring (especially if it comes near the cable attached to the temperature knob). Make sure that cable is not bent or chinked in any way. -Lino Sacman, SCPOC '93 Rio-Red PSE, 5-spd
